Maccabi Haifa in football and Maccabi Tel Aviv in basketball are demanding an increase in the amounts of compensation that the sports teams receive from the government safety net, for the loss due to not selling subscriptions and tickets to the viewing booths, ONE first learned. Both groups have filed an appeal claiming that in the compensation determined by the state for non-sale of subscriptions and tickets, they did not consider the viewing booths that constitute for them another significant source of income. The Greens demand compensation of an additional NIS 1 million, while the Yellows demand compensation of about half a million.

As you may recall, the national basketball champion demanded NIS 45 million from the safety net money set by the state, and finally an amount of NIS 15.8 million was set for it. For the leader of the Premier League in football, on the other hand, an amount of NIS 13 million in compensation was set.

After the closure opens, a special tour is expected to take place at Sami Ofer Stadium and Menora Mivtachim Hall on behalf of the Ministry of Sports and all concerned with the safety net issue, to see how many spectators enter the viewing booths and thus make sure the demands presented by the teams are not excessive. Once things are examined, the decision makers will decide whether to accept the appeal.

As for Maccabi Tel Aviv, which feels deprived, various sources claim that from the beginning the games in Europe were not considered in the safety net, so the team got above and beyond. In general, football was set at NIS 77 million in compensation and NIS 32 million at basketball.

By the way, the Football Association also claimed that they lost income due to the sale of subscriptions and tickets to the national team games, as well as a loss of income regarding the money that the teams would transfer from their profits. The amount demanded by the association as a result was NIS 6,752 million, but in the end it was awarded compensation of NIS 3.8 million for the team’s games, and not for the money not received from the teams.
