Following pressure from U.S. regulators, Tesla replaced 134,951 Model S and Model X vehicles with touchscreen display cases that resulted in the loss of several safety-related features.

The affected cars, made at Tesla’s automotive plant in Fremont, California, include Tesla Model S sedans made between 2012 and 2018, and Model X SUVs in model years from 2016 to 2018.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) asked Tesla on Jan. 13 to recall 158,716 of its electric vehicles after it was determined that the glitches are causing safety issues related to the center’s console screen.

“The eMMC controller’s wear-out situation can result in loss of rearview camera display, defrost / defog control options, and external steep signal lights, reducing visibility and increasing the risk of an accident,” the NHTSA said the problem.

Owners of Tesla vehicles formerly known as CNBC reported that the display on their media control units (or MCUs) would sometimes go blank, in part or in whole. The touchscreen issues hindered the ability of drivers to use heating, air-conditioning, de-ignition and de-ignition systems in their cars, or to use the rear-view cameras and Tesla Autopilot features while driving. parking and driving.

The difference in NHTSA figure and Tesla memory was not immediately apparent.

As part of the recall, Tesla will upgrade the eMMC controller part inside the car for free.
