British Mutation: Fear that the strain has adopted the mutation that impairs the effectiveness of the vaccine

Concern in the UK: The British variant of the corona virus has adopted the E484K mutation, which also exists in the South African and Brazilian strains and partially impairs the effectiveness of the corona vaccine, according to a survey by the UK Health Authority.

Following the disturbing findings, the UK has announced a “door-to-door” test operation during which 80,000 people will be tested in order to stop the spread of the South African variant and contain the new outbreaks, a process known as “surge testing”. The test will be conducted in eight areas of the country – three in London, two in the southeast of the country, one in the center, one in the east and another in the northwest. There are about 10,000 people in each area.

Last night, the Ministry of Health updated that 80 carriers of the South African variant have been found in Israel so far. Also, 16 out of 20 pregnant women who were found to be positive for the corona virus and genetically engineered – were found to carry the British mutation of the virus, which is suspected to be more contagious and even causes more serious illness.
Just last week, Pfizer published interim data in a study it conducted regarding its corona vaccine and confirms that the vaccine is effective against the British and South African variants of the corona virus. The study is based on blood tests taken from experimenters who took both doses of the vaccine.

Pfizer confirms that there is a decrease in the amount of antibodies that the body developed after the vaccine for the South African variant, but it is still an amount of antibodies that is sufficient for effective protection from it. The company estimates that it is possible that in this case the vaccine will lose some of its effectiveness, but will still achieve the required result.
