A hotel quarantine security guard and a ridden driver’s driver may have been put in Perth by an infectious lock for five days before testing positive for Covid-19, authorities believe.

The security guard, who is in his 20s and from the inner fringes of the Maylands, became the first instance of a community outbreak in the state in 10 months when he tested positive for the virus Saturday night.
The government’s response has been a five-day lockdown for the Perth, Peel and South West regions.
Health authorities have now identified 60 close ties with the security guard, who have been told to separate for two weeks.
The man worked at the Sheraton Four Points hotel, as several Australians or permanent residents had been confirmed to have been contracted from the UK or South African Covid strain.

The man, who claims to have had PPE while working at the hotel, returned negative results as part of routine tests on January 15, 17 and 23 but started becoming ill last Thursday – January 28 – and he called in sick to move him that day.
Western Australia’s chief health officer, Andy Robertson, said the security guard was more prone to infection from January 26 – five days before his positive test result came Saturday night.
The man went to KFC, Coles, Chemist Warehouse and Halal grocery store after falling ill.
He also visited the Consulate General of India, Venus ladies and gentle hairdressers and Perth Convention Center while potentially infectious.
Health authorities have listed 15 locations as potential exposure sites after a security guard visit.
Residents who visited any of the locations at specific test dates and times were told to immediately test and separate themselves to get a negative result.

The centers are spread throughout the Maylands, Midland, Morley, Cloverdale, Burswood, Perth North, Perth and Nedlands suburban areas.
The man has a second job as a tour division driver but authorities said he had not worked in that position since Jan. 22.
He has three housemates who have all tested negative for Covid-19. They are all placed in a hotel quarantine for 14 days.
Authorities are investigating the breach but say the guard did not enter a hotel room.
Police Commissioner Chris Dawson said the coming days would be ‘very urgent’ as 60 close links with the security guard have been identified.

‘We call it the case of 903.. This is a man who… we suspect has the UK variable type but that will be confirmed in the next 36 hours, ‘Mr Dawson told 6PR Radio on Monday.

Chief Health Officer Andy Robertson was unable to judge whether there appeared to be a community outbreak.
“We get super-spreaders inside Covid-19,” he said.
‘But we also have others like the 20-year-old woman in Queensland who was out in the community for three or four days and didn’t manage to distribute it to anyone.’
Premier Mark McGowan declared a state of emergency on Sunday and ordered about 80 percent of the state’s population to stay at home except for four essential reasons.
Locking will be down until 6pm on Friday.
Under the locking orders, residents cannot leave their homes for four reasons; shopping for essential goods such as groceries and medicine, seeking medical treatment, exercising for an hour every day and working if one cannot work remotely.
All pubs, clubs, playgrounds and gymnasiums in Perth will close, while restaurants will be open for takeaway only and visits to care homes and hospitals will be restricted.

Schools will remain closed – they were due to reopen on Monday for the first day of the year.
Restrictions have also been reinstated for funerals – limited to just 10 people while locked.
A wedding was postponed during the lockout.
Residents are required to wear face masks the entire time they are out and are also mandatory at indoor workplaces.
Masks are mandatory on public transport.
Anyone within the locked areas has been urged to stay so that they do not spread the virus to regional and vulnerable communities.
Mr McGowan warned ‘we can expect them to become positive in the coming days’.
