Manny Pacquiao has been accused by Conor McGregor of overestimating Dustin Poirier in the run-up to their UFC 257 qualifier.

McGregor was knocked out in the second round of a UFC return in Abu Dhabi after Poirier controlled the Irishman with his wrestling ability and foot kicks.

Pacquiao believes the terrible loss is due to McGregor’s oversight of Poirier – after he stopped the Americans in less than two minutes during their 2014 fight.

Losing is part of the game. In sports there are winners and losers, that’s it. It’s not about loss, but about how to take on the issue in your life: how to get over that difficult time in your life, ’Pacquiao told ABS-CBN News.

‘McGregor had beaten his competitor before and I think that made him disrespect him.’

Promoter Manny Paquiao believes there is no demand for Conor McGregor’s fight ‘right now’

McGregor had been hoping to put his competitor aside when he returned to the UFC and was himself complaining for a winning fight against Pacquiao.

However, the unexpected loss to Poirier added the brakes on the 2021 Pacquiao-McGregor boxing match.

McGregor had previously said the result against ‘Pacman’ was ‘almost certain’, but Sean Gibbons, the president of promotions Manny Pacquiao, played out matchup hopes soon.

Gibbons has said there is no ‘demand for the fight’ at the moment and he will have to clean up his business in the UFC after his loss to Poirier.

‘Very unfortunate [that McGregor lost], it looked like Conor was looking past Dustin and getting out. Perhaps his Senator was on his mind. I don’t think the demand for the fight is there at the moment, ‘Gibbons told Sun Sport.

‘Conor has some business to clean and handle in the UFC. It’s a bummer, it could be fun as long as it lasts and you know that kickbacks would have made a different world. ‘

If McGregor agrees terms with Pacquiao in the future, this is not his first time stepping into the ring.

McGregor made his boxing debut in August of 2017, when he and Floyd Mayweather went off in an unprecedented crossover boxing match that saw the America defeated the UFC star through a ten-round hit at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
