The team in action (Tzachi Reisel, Rugby Association of Israel)
Israel’s seventh rugby team will play this coming March against the Emirates team as part of a joint training camp of the two teams that will take place starting on March 8 in Dubai. An agreement was reached between the technical director of the Emirates’ team, Apollo Pralini, a native of New Zealand, and the technical director of the Rugby Association of Israel, Kevin Musikant, a new immigrant from South Africa.
The training camp and tournament in Dubai are part of the preparations of the Israeli Olympic team for its goal tournaments that will take place this summer in Europe. The first tournament will take place in June in Zagreb, Croatia (starting on 19.6) and the second tournament will take place in Budapest, Hungary (starting on 10.7). In the tournaments, Israel will compete against Romania, Ukraine, Belgium, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Luxembourg, Denmark, Latvia, Hungary and Turkey.
The Israeli team is competing in the second tier of Europe, the “Trophy” tier and in 2019 it finished in seventh place out of 12 teams. The intensive training program, despite Corona’s limitations, is designed to bring the team to the top of the house and to rise to the first tier, the “Grand Prix”, within two to three years.
