Sharjah governor critic criticizes Israeli education cooperation | Education News

Sheikha Jawaher Al Qasimi tweeted that Israel ‘curriculum advocates the killing and rape of Arabs.

The wife of Sharjah’s governor in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has criticized a heated meeting held between her country and the Israeli Ministry of Education in rare public criticism.

The meeting, held via video conference on Monday, discussed collaboration on a number of approaches, including student exchange bequest and academic joint studies following the UAE’s decision to normalize links to Israel in August last year.

Sheikha Jawaher Al Qasimi, the wife of Sheikh Sultan Al Qasimi, added that the Israeli curriculum “claims to kill and rape Arabs”.

The tweet provoked widespread responses between supporters and opponents.

“Many respects to you Sheikha Jawaher, for your great stand that has touched the hearts of Arab people and represents them,” said Jordanian singer Makadi Salem al-Nahhas.

Another social media user commented that it is not just the Israeli curriculum that incites hatred against Arabs, but a holistic ideology.

“I hope that God protects Emirati and Arab society from the open integration of the Zionist entity into their social, cultural and economic environment of society,” Hadeel al-Farra said.

On the other hand, several Emirati tweeters defended this cooperation, believing that UAE authorities are more aware of the country’s interest.

Rashid Abdullah bin Mukhtar wrote: “We need to be honest with ourselves, and not forget that our curriculum and other platforms are motivated against non-Muslims. Curricula and attitudes can be changed through discussion and openness. “

However, others pointed out that Israeli education minister Yoav Galant was a deputy commander in the Israeli army and served in operations targeting Palestinians.

The UAE became the third Arab country, after Egypt and Jordan, to normalize relations with Israel in a treaty with the August 2020 U.S. bankruptcy.

On Monday, Israel officially opened its embassy in Abu Dhabi, with the presence of Israeli ambassador Eitan Na’eh.
