Athletic Bilbao players celebrate (La Liga)
The main course
Athletic Bilbao is still a unique phenomenon in world football. The Basque club, which plays with only Basque players (with slight anomalies here and there) has experienced a resurgence in the last month under Marcelino.
Bilbao got involved quite a bit at the bottom of the Spanish league, was in tough survival battles but eventually managed to stay in the league. In Spain there are only three clubs that have always been in the Premier League and have never been relegated to the Premier League: Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bilbao.
It has been almost 100 years (since 1929) that Bilbao has been able to do magic. Sometimes not only does Bilbao manage to be far from the bottom, it has even reached the Europa League final (2012) and sometimes flirts with the top.
Earlier this month the club decided to fire Gaiska Gritano and appoint Marcelino. Under the coach who won the cup with Valencia it seems that Bilbao is flourishing and has won the Super Cup with victories over Real Madrid and Barcelona. The 1: 5 over Hattafa was a purposeful display of the Basques and showed their great potential. On Sunday they arrive at Camp Nou.

Tapas, in small
“The most important thing is that we have seen an excellent team achieve a tremendous result”, Marcelino Emphasized Bilbao’s “togetherness”.
The extra number
5 – Iker Muniain has provided five touchdowns in his last three games at Bilbao.
