On the way to Eurovision 2021: The song chosen to represent Israel in the European song contest is Set Me Free (“Free”), as announced in a special broadcast tonight (Monday) at the Broadcasting Corporation here.
The winning song, which will be performed by singer Eden Elena, was written by Amit Mordechai, Noam Zaltin, Ido Netzer and Ron Carmi. The identities of the writers were first revealed during the evening broadcast. The song defeated the other two contestants who reached the finals: Ue La La and La La Love.
If there are no surprises, the Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to take place in Rotterdam, the Netherlands in May, subject to corona restrictions. The first semi-final, featuring Elena, will take place on May 18 and will be broadcast here. As you may recall, last year the competition was canceled due to the unexpected spread of the global epidemic.

Elena won a ticket to the Eurovision Song Contest thanks to her victory in the “Next Eurovision Star” program. When she learned that the competition had been postponed she burst into tears as she thought she had missed the opportunity to take the prestigious stage. Shortly afterwards, the Broadcasting Corporation announced that it had decided to represent Israel in any case, at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.
Eden Elena said at the end of the broadcast: “Thank you very much to all the creators and composers who took part in the competition. I am excited about the choice and promise to do the best for you. I had an amazing experience and from here I look forward to the Eurovision Song Contest this May.”
