There’s a new broom in the White House, and Joe Biden didn’t waste any time in sweeping away many of the signs that Donald Trump was ever there. He first signed a bunch of regulatory orders to reverse many of the previous decisions, then turned his eye to the Oval Office.
Out went the artwork depicting American populist leaders and the military tokens that Mr. Trump brought with him in 2016. Inside came the bodies of civil rights activists and nods to the importance of unity and science.
Perhaps the most interesting change is the removal of Winston Churchill’s body. Originally loaned to George W Bush by Tony Blair in 2001, it was removed by Barack Obama in 2009, a move which London mayor Boris Johnson dubbed “snub to Britain”.
When Donald Trump came to power in 2017, he returned Churchill’s body to the Oval Office, showing proudly to Theresa May when she visited. In its place now, on the orders of Mr. Biden, is the body of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.
