Nine-year-old dog Billy has won the hearts of millions of surfers around the world, after a video of him limping alongside his owner, 53-year-old Russell Jones, who also limped with crutches following an ankle fracture. Concerned about the dog’s condition, Jones decided to take him for an x-ray to understand why the dog Billy was lame, but the discovery following the photo was particularly surprising. Watch Billy a lame dog next to his owner:
Jones spent £ 300 on an X-ray, only to find that his dog was limping only out of sympathy with him. That is, Billy the dog started limping only after his owner broke his ankle and started limping himself, and this is not the first time either In it he imitates his husband. In the past Jones’ wife, Michelle, stretched a muscle in her back and had to lie down for a long time when Billy the dog would lie down next to her again and again. Watch an interview with Jones and his wife:
Jones, from Hodsdon, Westfordshire, UK, was forced to use crutches for seven weeks after breaking his ankle while working as a window cleaner. The owner, who runs his cleaning business, was concerned when he noticed his dog starting to limp during a routine walk. Jones invested heavily in x-rays and painkillers to decipher and facilitate his dog’s lameness, but veterinarians found nothing that could attest to the reason for the lameness.
At one point, Jones decided to take Billy for a ride on his scooter, and then he realized – Billy is only lame when he walks by his side. In an interview with the British morning show This Morning, Jones said: “When I took him out to the scooter, he started walking like he never limped, so I realized he limped just because he imitated me.” Billy the Dog’s viral video garnered millions of views, when the post read: “The fake lameness cost me £ 300 for a vet and x-ray. Nothing happened to Billy, it’s just empathy. love him”.
