England lead the Vitality Netball Superleague All Stars team in three games on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday; all matches are live on Sky Sports

As netball returns to Sky Sports, Tamsin Greenway talks about her fun in England taking on the Vitality Netball Superleague All Stars and running the rule over the two teams ahead of the series, starting Wednesday.

The Roses were set to play against Jamaica this January, however, due to the ongoing travel restrictions due to coronavirus, the Sunshine Girls were unable to make the series.

Instead, everyone involved in the domestic league and the national program has come together to make sure the Vitality Netball Legends series can still be played, just in a different format.

With a wealth of international players choosing to make the Vitality Netball Superleague his home, several have come together under the leadership of Karen Greig and Mel Mansfield to bring England three games behind closed doors in Loughborough.

All matches will be live on Sky Sports and streamed on Sky Sports’ YouTube channel this week for those living in the UK and Ireland, with Greenway providing expert analysis across the board. . Here, she talks about the inside and outside of the series before the opening game …

First of all, I think that everyone is going to be excited about the fact that netball is going on and that we will all be able to watch three live match games this week. . After the initial disappointment that the Jamaica series was pulled, we finally got some good news, and I think a lot of credit has to go to everyone involved.

England Netball, the sides and the Vitality Netball Superleague players are to be commended for their dedication and for the sacrifices they make to make this happen. The All Star and Roses players have created bubbles to keep them away from their families and teams as they prepare for the series that will allow us to enjoy something at a very difficult and strange time.

For the Vitality Roses, it is extremely important that they as a team keep competing regularly. They are a world – class team and the reality is that when we come out of this, the Commonwealth Games and the Netball World Cup will be the sights. England must continue to seize any opportunity they can to play Test-match level netball.

After losing ‘2020’, the Commonwealth Games are now on the horizon. The preparations have to take a step and the countdown is down. As an international head coach myself, I know how scary it is time to fly so fast, with so few opportunities to play.

The Vitality Roses will be aiming for a gold medal in Birmingham next year so this series is very important to ensure they are tested and the All Stars team should give England a big competition.

If you look at the England squad chosen by Jess Thirlby, your eye will immediately move to the name of Helen Housby as she returns for the first time since the Vitality Netball World Cup.

Her return definitely strengthens the end of the hunt! While she’s been abroad, Jo Harten too, players like Eleanor Cardwell, George Fisher and Sophie Drakeford-Lewis have graduated but it’s good to see her again in the unit.

It clarifies that the build is important to her and also allows us all to see what the fusion of the four players is like, it also brings experience and confidence to that shooting end, which is why i’m so glad she’s back in group.

Layla Guscoth will be back on the appropriate court again and Tamsin Greenway believes this could be an important set for her

Elsewhere in the squad I want to mention Layla Guscoth who, along with Beth Cobden, is returning from injury.

The last couple of times we’ve seen England at work, the defensive end has seen youngsters step up to the mark with Williams and Quashie standing, to add Layla to this head just to help developing these players and helping them continue their learning on the international stage.

I think she has a real chance to be the starting GD of England through this circle, and this is a great opportunity for her to take ownership [of the position]. This is her chance to shine, be a key player and put some structure and experience into the English defensive end.

Like everyone else in the world of netball, I am very happy to see Beth Cobden back. Performing back ACLs on the same leg is unusual and highly demanding of your physical and emotional strength.

It’s been a long time coming to see Beth in an English dress, at the 2018 Commonwealth Games she was just reaching her peak. I was playing against her the day she made her first ACL for Loughborough in the Superleague final and it would have been a very different game if she had stayed on the court. This is a great result for her.

Turning to the All Stars team, it is a credit to the development and current position of the Vitality Netball Superleague. Over the years the UK league has brought in some special overseas players and this season is no different. A wide range of nationalities are also on display that add different dynamics for all players to play with and against.

Starting with their shooting end, the coaching staff will be excited that Joyce Mvula will be in charge, Greig’s relationship with her is also important as she and Mansfield are trying to consolidate this team in such a short time . Mvula is so strong on the ball and her rise and movement will give England defenders something.

I also can’t wait to see Gezelle Allison, who has joined Wasps Netball this season. They needed another ring player this year, and this will be an opportunity to see if it is the real article and whether it will win them over in the league.

However, it is the middle of the court that is excited. You have Caroline O’Hanlon, who I think is one of the best midfielders in the league, playing with Liana Leota again and then Nat Panagarry coming into the fold. All three of them are very fit, very difficult and will not shy away from the opponents.

Liana is one of the best players in the world on the ball and if those three can weld that mix and a chance to play together, it could be a moderately dangerous court. It will also be a great test for England’s top players, such as Serena Guthrie and Nat Haythornthwaite.

This All Stars team needed to be able to compete with England and I think, throughout that middle court, they can give it to the Roses.

Finally, at their defensive end, I’m thrilled to see how Jo Trip and Sam May perform. I think the All Stars coaching team can be very creative in terms of what they could come up with using Tripp and May. I think the Saracens Mavericks have a lethal Trip and Razia Quashie together and May is such an effective GK.

An obvious mix is ​​to put Loreen Ngwira or Summer Artist at the back, with the other two out at GD, but I would love to see Trip and May have time together to make an impact. I think they could cause a real headache with the ball they’re trying to win, it won’t be so obvious, but you never know.

This All Stars team is full of talent and talent, but nonetheless looking through the rest of the players signed for the 2021 Superleague season there are so many other names that could be on the selection and in the mix.

From individuals we know like Rachel Dunn, Adean Thomas and Kim Commane to newer faces who want more playing time and opportunities – such as Ine-Mari Venter, Annika Lee-Jones and Donnell Wallam. It’s incredible to imagine how many star players will be featured this year.

When it returns, the Vitality Netball Superleague will be full of individuals and together, they will all raise the bar and continue to drive forward domestic and now international netball in England.
