IPixit has been making a big impact on AirPods Max. The price tag of Apple headphones has been a popular topic of debate, and they have been compared to Sony and Bose brands for a more complete understanding of why Apple has given them such a high price. The teardown reveals that the headphones have two battery cells in the right cup, and no left front pressure. Even then, the imbalance in weight has been eliminated due to AirPods Max engineering. IFixit will give a score of 6 out of 10, its first non-zero score to AirPods output.
IFixit starts the reduction by removing the magnetically attached earcup cushions on AirPods Max without any tools, and removing the pentalobe screws on the earbuds. However, those ears are further locked with glue, and the folks at iFixit had to use the heat gun to pull it apart. IFixit notes that each earcup has one microphone stowaway, and the 40mm drivers are held down by a few screws as well.
Coming to the battery, both cells reside in the right ear and are attached with screws and not with adhesive. They deliver power through a single iPhone-style pop-up connection without any solder. This makes the battery inside the AirPods Max easy to replace. Both battery cells offer a total capacity of 664mAh and 2.53Whr at 4.35 V. In comparison, the Bose NC 700 headphones have a 2.39Whr cell that promises around 20 hours of listening and Sony WH-1000XM4 has a 4.1Whr battery which is said to offer a longer listening time, 30 hours.
Perhaps the best part about the resilience of iFixit’s discovery of Apple’s headband removal mechanism. It has been noted that you can separate the entire headband from AirPods Max with just a SIM card removal device or a paperclip, without even opening the ear cup.
IFixit says that despite the somewhat complicated tail-opening process, AirPods Max is “relatively affordable.” The reduction also laments the engineering of AirPods Max, saying it looks like “more of a mechanical watch than any pair of headphones.” He said, “After tearing down some of the competition, we realize more about that $ 550 price tag. Sony and Bose both build smaller, but on the inside, AirPods Max’s obsessive craftsmanship makes these other truly capable devices look like toys in comparison. ”The AirPods Max in India is priced at Rs. 59,900 and are available in the US for $ 550.
