Hackers will pay $ 5 million to the developer of Pokemon GO

Beginning of an article

During 2019, the company Niantic, which developed the games Pokemon Go, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite and Ingress filed a lawsuit against Global ++ – a group of hackers who sold hacked versions of the games in question.

The claim in the statement of claim stated that Global ++ used the original code based on the writing of these mobile games without the developer’s permission, and in fact sold prostituted versions of the game that give players an advantage.

Because the same mobile games are based on GPS and location in the real world – the prostitute versions called ++ Ingress, PokeGo ++ and Potter ++ allowed players to simulate “walking” in the game, and thus actually cheat and get more bonuses and prizes in the games.

The document claims that these hacked versions rely on 99% of the code written by Niantic for those games and changes the data to access the map.

The court settlement was signed by the judges and ruled that the hacker group must pay $ 5 million to the developer, and pledge that it will stop selling hacked versions of the games, including stopping the development, marketing and maintenance of existing or future versions.

Niantic was originally established in 2010 as an internal startup within Google, and they do not belong to Nintendo. The company developed Pokemon Go in 2016 after the success of the game Ingress, and it seems that Nintendo were interested in taking their popular brand in a similar direction – so they allowed niantic to use the rights and develop a mobile game for them.
