Emirates Dubai and Etihad Airways of Abu Dhabi have partnered with the International Air Transport Association to introduce a travel pass for passengers who have been against Covid-19 or who have passed a negative test.
IATA Travel Pass will be offered on select flights from Abu Dhabi in the first quarter, state-owned Etihad said Tuesday. The carrier will extend the pass to other destinations if the first test is successful.
Passports will keep passengers in control of their data and allow them to share their test results with airlines and travel authorities, Etihad said.
Emirates, the world’s largest long-haul carrier, will implement level 1 of the license in April to test Covid-19 tests for flights departing from Dubai.
The United Arab Emirates has administered nearly 2 million doses of vaccine and has the highest rates of inoculations per 100 people worldwide after Israel.
IATA, the industry group, had designed a test program with Parent of British Airways IAG USA at the end of last year. And last month, Singapore Airlines has begun testing a new digital authentication process based on the IATA Passport Framework.
