Ryan Reynolds ’explained how he was associated with Deadpool for over a decade
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times in 2016, Ryan Reynolds talked about his film Deadpool. He was approached in 2005 by Avi Arad who then ran the Marvel studio back then. They were due to make the film with Dark Knight trilogy screenwriter David Goyer and several others from the team. However, Fox started handling Marvel and soon the project was stopped.

He last got a chance to play Deadpool in 2009 X-Men Origins: Wolverine. He said the film deserved an introduction about his character for the solo film to be released later. But just like the fans, Ryan didn’t like how the character was portrayed as an anti-hero but still decided to go ahead with the film. It was noted that the film was on its own Deadpool it was removed from the radar for a few years. He went on to make a DC Green Lantern character that was a commercial failure.
Ryan said the relationship with the film felt like a friendship on and off with sleepless nights. However, he said it turned out to be a sweet wedding. In 2014, Ryan released a small test film of the film unannounced. He later said that it was not part of the film and that was not how the character would look. The Ryan Reynolds fanbase video created made the makers realize that the character is in high demand and that they should start with the final project. Shortly after 21st Century Fox a green studio gave the film its mark and the film was eventually shot and released.

Ryan also said he was never a comic book fan. He lived in Vancouver and did not share comic books with children in those days. However, he mentioned that when the film was offered to him, he made efforts to read the entire comic book to understand the character. He said Deadpool never really cared and would always do something different than the rest of the heroes.
