Urbani Nahariya continues to make moves in the player market, with the aim of upgrading the staff and escaping from the bottom: Guard Malik Newman signed with Shai Saglovitch’s team.
The 23-year-old Newman (1.91m) was a high school and college star: he was named MVP of the Under-17 World Championships and also played at Mississippi and Kansas colleges, when in 2018 he was named MVP of the Big 12 tournament.
Despite his impressive ability at a young age, Newman was unable to make the move to the NBA and played mostly in the Development League. He started the current season at the Turkish Bursaspor, averaging 12.9 points, 3.4 assists and 3.1 rebounds.
Newman is the second foreign player to join Nahariya’s squad recently, after Mackenzie Moore signed a contract until the end of the season earlier this week. In addition, the position of the Israelis was upgraded by the Purples with the addition of Ziv Ben Zvi.
Saglowicz referred to the promising signing: “As part of a kind of reconstruction in the recess that was created, we were looking for a tough guard who would add aggression and talent to us. I want to thank the management who managed to execute the deal so quickly and all those involved in the craft.”
