(CNN) – In a bid to protect against new coronavirus changes, the UK will close all travel corridors from 4am at local time on Monday.
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the move at a press conference on Friday, confirming that the only way to get into the country is by getting a negative coronavirus test result.
“This means if you come to this country, you must have proof of the negative Covid test you have taken in the 72 hours before you leave. And you have to be on the passenger locator form fill out your airline, and ask your airline for confirmation of both before taking off, “Johnson said.
“You may also be inspected on land and fined for refusing to surrender, and on arrival you must then quarantine for 10 days, without leaving home. you for any reason. Or take another test on day five and wait for confirmation of another negative result. And we will increase our implementation, both at the border and in the country, “Johnson said.
The measures apply to all travelers, including British and Irish nationals.
More enforcement will support the new rules, including more spot checks on passengers who have entered the country, the Department of Transportation said in a press release.
The move halts travel corridors that have been in place between the UK and various destinations since July 2020.
“The level of risk associated with the emergence of new changes around the world has now risen, requiring tougher measures to block all possible avenues through which new strains of the virus are entering the UK while we consider how best to respond, “the Department for Transport said.
The new measure will be reviewed on 15 February.
