First impression of the Galaxy S21 series devices

Samsung announced today (Thursday, 14.1) its new flagship devices in the Galxay S21 series, with advanced optical zoom capabilities that can be increased up to 10 times in the ultra model, 120 Hz screens, the Exynos 2100 processor produced in an advanced 5 nanometer process And a new design for the main photography set.

The new devices will be seen in Israel only in February 2021, but even before that happens, the three landed on Gadgeti’s table and we got a chance to be impressed by them for a short time, so we can provide you with our impressions of the three phones in the Galaxy S21 series.

Design and grip comfort

Samsung boasts that the design of the flagship series has been refreshed with the S21 models, this is reflected in the back of the device. The photo array is now located as part of an extension of the luxury metal frame, so it looks like the frame is spilling onto the back of the device. This looks good, especially when looking at the device with the new and oval color, which incorporates a golden frame that also spills into the back of the device.

It is still a photo array that stands out considerably from the back, but the movement on the table when you place the device on its back is not high, especially not in the Galaxy S21 Ultra model where the photo array occupies a considerable surface area more than the back of the device.

Samsung did a pretty good job in distributing the weight of the devices, and although I am a fan of more compact devices, both the S21 Plus and the S21 Ultra did not feel too heavy in the short time I spent with them. These are very large devices, and you will not be able to use them with one hand easily, but the relatively narrow structure allows a comfortable grip and slightly forgets the fact that these are devices that weigh more than 200 grams. The standard S21 model is the most comfortable to use, and with a 6.2-inch screen, this is an advantage on the comfort side while holding a large screen.

A part of the design that is not immediately visible to the eye is the SIM slot. Rumor has it that the SIM slot will not be combined this time with the option of expanding storage, and in removing it I did find that there is no place to insert a microSD card, when it is replaced by a box for another SIM card and two in number.

The cameras

Samsung’s main focus with the launch of the new Galaxy S21 models was on the cameras, with the Galaxy S21 Ultra receiving the biggest emphasis. The Ultra gets its differentiation from the other two models in a number of places, with higher dynamics in the display refresh rate selection, a larger battery and a square photo array that allows for up to 10x optical zoom.

The optical zoom of course looks great, whether it’s a 10x ultra zoom or a 3x hybrid zoom of the S21 and S21 Plus, but the more impressive part is what Samsung has been able to produce from the digital zoom 30x, which allows faster shooting than before by using focus Automatic laser and uses algorithms from the field of deep learning (AI), together with a pair of telephoto cameras of course, to produce quite impressive images at high speed.

Samsung will launch the three models in Israel only in February, until then they are only available for early purchase, and at a price of 2999 NIS for the Galaxy S21 model, at 3799 NIS for the S1 Plus model and starting at 4799 NIS for the model S21 Ultra (these are official prices, but prices may change due to market competition).
