AMD Ryzen 5000 – A series of Zen 3 core-based mobile processors

AMD announced today (Tuesday, 12.1) the series of processorsRyzen 5000 Her new mobiles during an online event held as part of the CES 2021 exhibition led by CEO Dr. Lisa Su. Similar to the Ryzen 5000 desktop processor series, the new mobile processors will use the company’s improved Zen 3 cores in 7nm production, offering a 19% IPC performance improvement over the previous generation.

The new Ryzen 5000 processors join the stationary Ryzen 5000 processors and graphics cards from the Radeon RX 6000 series that arrived last October as part of the “Red October” event, as they replace the Ryzen 4000 series of mobile processors announced during CES 2020 last year and perform “Line alignment” between all of the company’s processor series and the Zen 3 cores.

The new processor family is this time divided into 3 different processor levels, including:

  • The U models have low power consumption for ultra-portable computers
  • The H models for mobile gaming are thin and light
  • AMD’s new HX models are designed for extremely portable and powerful gaming machines, which come with an open multiplier for quick execution with a consumption of over 45W, while the most powerful Ryzen 9 5980HX model shows a 23% improvement in single core performance and up to 17% in multi-core Compared to the previous generation.

Unlike the new H and HS models that use AMD’s Zen 3 core, the Ryzen 5000U series with lower power consumption combines Zen 2 models with the lower models in the series and Zen 3 models with the more powerful models, which offer a single core performance improvement of up to 16% and multi-core performance of up to 14% compared to the previous generation, with improved battery life of up to 17.5 hours of general use and up to 21 hours of expected video.

Along with the launch of AMD’s new Ryzen 5000 processors, the company has announced the availability of its new Ryzen Threadripper PRO processors on the open market for direct sale and not just through computer manufacturers.

In addition, the company has unveiled a pair of new Ryzen 5000 desktop processors that come as low-power versions of the Ryzen 9 5900X and Ryzen 7 5800X, which include the following models:

AMD’s current launch aligns with all of the company’s processor series, which move to use the Zen 3 cores, with the use of Zen 2 cores only in its base models. With initial expectations of mobile availability with the new AMD processors from this coming February, it remains to be seen what the performance of the various laptops will actually look like and how they will compete with the new Intel processors.
