Thousands of DIY enthusiasts around Australia are embracing a new move to turn old glass bottles and jars into stunning chic vases.
Perth’s mother, Carolina, showed the easy process in a December 17 TikTok video, which has since been viewed more than 88,000 times.
The craft project involves painting the pegs using acrylic paint and applying once-dried jute string for a country look.
The end result is sure to fill any dull corner and replace a decorative feature in the home.

In the clean video Carolina first surfaces a bottle of passata sauce by using a damp paper towel to remove any stickers and barcodes.
Using a brush she painted two layers on the jar to make sure the glass is not visible.
To make the jar look like ceramic, she mixed baking soda into a bowl of paint beforehand.
The abrasive texture of the baking soda will create a rough surface on the jar instead of a smooth finish.
Those who paint on a budget may want to consider purchasing small sample paint pots from Bunnings to decorate many vases of different colors.
Once the paint had dried, Carolina wrapped the string around the glass jar.

Using a paint press she applied two coats on the jar to make sure the glass was not visible before stringing
Local Victorian Brittney suggested the simple method of sharing images to Facebook group Kmart Inspired Homes – which has over 334,000 members.
‘I shook these three this morning and I’m so happy with them! Recommended for a cheap and easy idea! she wrote.
Both Brittney and Carolina painted the glass beads white and the end result looked elegant.

Tips WHEN PAINTING THE VASES
Both glass and old ceramic pots can be used
Use examples of paint pots from Bunnings Warehouse to stay on a budget and choose several colors
Any paint can be used as long as it is water based
Use as much bi-carb soda as needed to create the texture you want
Paint the inside, outside and bottom of the vase as well
Make sure all the paint is dry before applying another layer of paint, otherwise it will peel off
Add as many layers as you like – the more paint you add, the more it looks
The fun and simple craft project takes place on a weekend and the unobtrusive reusable pots turn into chic, modern vases that fill any weird corner.
Others on both Facebook and TikTok said the DIY device was ‘brilliant’ and the end results ‘gorgeous’.
