Netanyahu trial: The adjourned hearing in his case will open on February 8

The Jerusalem District Court announced today (Monday) that the trial of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will resume on February 8. Judge Rebecca Friedman-Feldman, the head of the panel of judges in the prime minister’s trial, announced that the hearing in his case that was postponed last week will take place in about a month, about six weeks before the election.

According to Judge Friedman-Feldman’s announcement, the prime minister will respond to the indictment on the new date set, instead of at a hearing scheduled for January 13. The decision to postpone the trial was made after a meeting between Justice Minister Bnei Gantz, the head of the Bar Association, Avi Chimi, and the director of the courts.

Much criticism has been leveled at the postponement of Netanyahu’s trial, despite the tightening of corona restrictions and the rise in morbidity. A few days before the announcement of the postponement of the trial, Justice Minister Bnei Gantz tweeted: “Netanyahu, don’t worry, the courts will remain open – about me.” At the same time it should be noted that the decision to postpone the trial was made by the panel of judges in it.
