Scientists have now discovered that Mars is wiggling and moving while spinning, and they have no idea why the celestial body is doing so. according to report le EOS, scientists have discovered what is known as the ‘Chandler wobble’ on Mars. This phenomenon is a constant movement of the poles on the planet’s surface away from its average axis of rotation. Chandler’s wobble arises when a rotating body is not in perfect range and the imbalance affects its spinning, the report says. The resulting surprise is like a steep roof as it loses speed.
Researchers have found that the planet’s poles span up to 10 centimeters from the average axis of rotation, with a repeated cycle of about 207 days.
A planet’s spherical magnetic field is the magnetic field that extends from its interior and to its outer space.
The study, conducted by Alex Konopliv, an aerospace engineer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, gives us new insights into the interior of Mars. According to study authors, the time it takes for the pole to complete one circle of the wobble shows how much of Mars’ costume is capable of deforming. This allows scientists to learn more about its properties and thermal state.
Speaking of which, Konopliv said the wobble is a very small signal and requires years of high-quality data to find.
The new study saw researchers measure the effects of gravity on the orbits of two NASA spacecraft orbiting Mars. So much data was collected over 18 years from the orbiter Mars Odyssey and Mars Reconnaissance, ensuring that the wobble was at the heart of the planet’s interior and shape rather than external facts.
The movement on Mars should die naturally, however, researchers still do not know what keeps the beak going and think this could be due to weight changes atmosphere.
The study results presented in the Geophysical Research Letters.
