England were unable to play the second day of their indoor warm-up match in Hambantota due to rain.
Team Buttler finished the opening day 120-6 after Team Root made it 184-2 from their 50 pitches.
England will now travel to Galle to prepare for the first Test against Sri Lanka, which starts on Thursday, live on Sky Sports.
Test captain Root 74 hit unbeaten on the first day of the game inside the team and Dan Lawrence, who hopes to make his first try next week, found a midfielder with 46 not out. .

Team Buttler had a problem in response as Dom Sibley, Jonny Bairstow and captain Buttler made just six runs between them.
James Anderson had caught Bairstow behind him and hit the first ball with Buttler, but Ollie Pope, who is not in the Test squad while recovering from injury, made 58 losses.
The Pope and Sibley, who returned to bats for the second time, were ready for the resumption of the second day.
Both sides had returned the second full of Covid-19 negative tests before they played, with Moeen Ali all-round continuing to part after testing positive when she reached Sri Lanka.
Chris Woakes, who was cited as a close associate of Moeen, is also alone, but the rest of the squad was all fighting for places in the first Test.
