(Reuters) – Former Chelsea manager Avram Grant has backed under-fire boss Frank Lampard to turn the Premier League club’s fortunes around after a turbulent start to the season.
A major upheaval in the close season, with the signings of German midfielder Kai Havertz and striker Timo Werner raised expectations for Chelsea, who finished fourth in the first season at Lampard as a leader in 2019-20.
The London club have been slashed as title contenders after a strong start to the current campaign but four hits in six Premier League games have left them in ninth place and have put pressure on Lampard.
“You have to be strong when things are not going well, when things are going well everyone is an expert and they know what to do,” said Grant, who went his pocket just days after he led Chelsea to the Champions League final in the 2008 Instagram Post.
“But in a situation like this you have to find solutions and show a lot of character. I can tell Frank and the rest of the club to be patient, do whatever is necessary … Don’t lose your fighting spirit at the highest level.
“Don’t lose what you have here (points at your head) you have to find solutions. If you do that everything will be fine because the quality is there. ”
