Bad news for people hoping to buy a cheaper Sony PlayStation 4 with the next-gen PlayStation 5 console going on sale in India in February. It is reported that Sony is discontinuing some PS4 and PS4 Pro models according to vendors in Japan. As per GameWatch, the 500GB Jet Black model is the only variant of the PS4 in production. The PS4 Pro will be discontinued just four years after its release.
Sony has reportedly taken this step to boost PS5 production to meet the growing demand for the models released worldwide.
We also researched for the availability of the oldest gaming console on various e-commerce websites in India. There is only Reliance Digital with multiple versions available for the PS4 that may dry up once the news is confirmed. Several local retailers may have stock of the PS4 and from the looks of it, console prices are not expected to go down with the release of PS5.
Sony Interactive Entertainment platform head Hideaki Nishino had previously said that it might take two or three years for the transition from PS4 to PS5 and that the older generation would not disappear.
Earlier this month, Sony India announced that the new consoles will be available for pre-orders in the country starting on January 12 and will be officially sold on February 2. Sony’s digital edition will cost PS 5 5 Rs 39,990, while the regular edition will cost Rs 49,990.
