Gemma Chan has talked about how the 2018 romantic comedy film Crazy Rich Asians has influenced her career.
In the February issue of ELLE UK, the actress, 38, revealed she could not walk through an airport in Singapore after being portrayed as Astrid Leong-Teo, and credited the successful film for its introduction to key roles.
The screen star also considered a growing production as a British Asian in the industry, working with Meryl Streep and optimistic about the future as she takes part in a high-profile cover-up show with photographer Marcin Kempski .

Despite being a thespian in 2009, the media personality gained worldwide recognition as a socialite Astrid nine years later.
On how Crazy Rich Asians has expanded its possibilities, the film star said: ‘Before Crazy Rich Asians, I was not considered for major roles in major films.
‘There’s a very select group of actors and actresses in that pool and I wouldn’t even get tested, I wasn’t even in that conversation.
‘But now … Well, I’ve been told that I’m being talked to for some things and then maybe you’ll meet the director, or at least get your bullet. So that feels a little different.

‘Because Crazy Rich Asians did so well internationally, I definitely felt a move at that point. Apparently, on a Captain Marvel news trip, unable to walk through an airport [in Singapore].
