TOKYO – The Japanese government has begun considering the submission of new applications of foreign nationals under industrial travel agreements with 11 countries and regions, including China and South Korea, in a bid to block the spread of the new crown.
The ban will take effect at least during the Japanese crisis, which begins as early as Thursday and is expected to last about a month.
On December 28, the Japanese government suspended new entrants of foreign nationals until the end of January in an effort to halt the spread of the new coronavirus version that is becoming increasingly common in the UK and other countries. But admission was through the business travel arrangements with the 11 countries and regions as an exception.
As the agreements were bilateral agreements with each of the 11 countries and regions, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will coordinate with the partner government in deciding when to they will start the path.
The government is also examining whether exemptions, such as medical professionals, would still be allowed to enter Japan.
“If a variable is found in the other country, [entry] it will be suspended immediately, “Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga said at a news conference on Monday.
