Following Gideon Saar’s announcement yesterday (Saturday) of the joining of Adv. Michal Diamant, the granddaughter of the late former Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir, this evening the new candidate received widespread criticism from the Likud – the party that was her grandfather’s political home. Transport Minister Miri Regev attacked Diamant in a post she posted on her Facebook account, but Diamant did not remain obligated and replied to her in her own post.
In her words to Diamant, Regev wrote: “Michal Diamant, if your grandfather had seen your deeds – he would have turned over in his grave!”. The Minister of Transportation also wrote: “I do not know you, but it is important for me to give you a brief lesson in history – in the 1992 elections, Prime Minister Shamir headed the Likud movement against Yitzhak Rabin as Labor leader. However, elements within the Likud attacked him as an internal opposition. Yitzhak Modai resigned “The new” along with other right-wing parties that split the bloc. We know the end: Rabin came to power and brought the Oslo disaster upon us at a terrible bloody price. “

In a personal statement, Regev concluded: “Michal Diamant, you and Saar are doing to Netanyahu what others have done to your grandfather Yitzhak Shamir. Attempting to rebel against the Likud leader, splitting the right-wing bloc and not accepting the Likud voters’ verdict. This time, only the Likud is voting. “
As mentioned, Diamant, the new member of Gideon Saar’s Tikva Hadasha ‘party, did not remain obligated and wrote to Regev: .

Diamant also wrote: “Indeed, you do not know me and therefore you do not know that I do not need history lessons at all, especially about my grandfather’s life and legacy. However, your letter shows that your historical knowledge is very partial and therefore it is important for me to give you a short history lesson: In 1999, former Prime Minister Shamir resigned from the Likud movement, amid his great disappointment with the movement’s leader at the time, Benjamin Netanyahu, who continued to establish the existence of the Oslo disaster (as you called it in your letter) – by signing a series of follow-up agreements to Oslo. “If you were wondering, Yitzhak Shamir agreed to return to the Likud party only after Netanyahu resigned from the party leadership.”
Miri Regev, my grandfather was proud of me all his life and I have no doubt that even and especially these days, when I enlisted in the important struggle for the future of a country …

Diamant attacked Regev and the Likud and said: “Like my grandfather, I too am not ready to trample on the basic principles on which the Likud movement is based. The division and hatred of the brethren that you sow in the people, the incessant slander towards all who are not on your side and the blatant contempt you show towards your constituents and towards the whole nation. This time we must not let this conduct continue, we must not agree to the continued hatred and division “Political needs and in stark contrast to the good of the state. This time there is a new hope, led by Gideon Saar.”
