Democrat Nancy Pelosi and Republican Mitch McConnell’s homes were targeted after relief checks were not increased.
Police in the United States say they are investigating the acts of vandalism in the homes of two senior lawyers who appear to be linked to a failed attempt to increase COVID-19 relief payments for Americans who are severely affected by the pandemic.
On Saturday, read spray paint on the door of Senate Visiting Leader Mitch McConnell in Kentucky, “WERES [sic] I HAVE MONEY “, while” MITCH KILLS THE POOR “was scratched over a window. Profanity aimed at the Republican supremacist was painted under the mailbox.
Louisville police are investigating what happened, which happened around 5am local time (10:00 GMT) on Saturday.
“I have spent my career fighting for the First Amendment and defending a peaceful protest,” McConnell said in a statement criticizing vandalism.
“I appreciate all the Kentuckians who have been involved in the democratic process whether they agree with me or not. This is different. Destruction and the politics of fear have no place in society. “

Meanwhile, California police said graffiti, a pig’s head and fake blood were found at Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s home in San Francisco on New Year’s Day.
The vandalism was reported around 2am local time (10:00 GMT) on Friday, police said in a statement, with a special unit investigating.
Local KGO-TV station said the graffiti found on the door of the Democratic director’s home garage included the phrases “$ 2K”, “Cancel rent!” And “We want to -everything ”- apparently references to the Democrats’ failed attempts to increase COVID-19 relief checks from $ 600 to $ 2,000.
On Friday, Republican Senate refused to allow a debate on a bill to increase the rate of COVID-19 relief checks.
The rise, backed by President Donald Trump, was passed by the Democratic-led House, but McConnell blocked a quick vote on the proposed measure in Senate on Dec. 29.
The government has started issuing smaller payments to millions of Americans. The $ 600 payment goes to individuals with incomes up to $ 75,000.
Congress approved the payment in late December, with Trump signing the bill into law Monday after a several-day delay threatening the much-needed COVID-19 financial aid which many Americans depend on.
The $ 2.3 trillion financial package includes unemployment benefits and family relief payments, as well as money for vaccine circulation, businesses, cash-in-transit public transportation and protection against evictions.
“It’s better than nothing, and that’s what people went into for Christmas,” Rosiland Jordan told Al Jazeera when Trump signed the bill into law this week.
“Many criticize the president for unnecessarily delaying the views of these critics and making things even more difficult for people than he has already been for the last nine months. leave, “Jordan said.
The U.S. has been hit hard by COVID-19 and millions of people have lost their jobs amid an economic downturn.
More than 20.3 million cases have been reported nationwide since the outbreak began, and more than 348,000 people have died, according to a report from Johns Hopkins University.
