The combination of the strong desire to celebrate Christmas in a friendly atmosphere and of the corona virus, can be especially deadly. 26 elderly people died in a Belgian nursing home after being infected in Corona. The cause of their infection has not yet been verified, according to a source in the Belgian Ministry of Health, but the elderly had attended Christmas celebrations a few days earlier, along with a volunteer disguised as Santa Claus, and diagnosed positive for the virus.
In addition, 85 residents were diagnosed positive for the virus, along with 40 other staff members. The outbreak of the virus occurred days after the volunteer’s visit, and virologists claim that the source of the patients’ infection is the same. A spokesman for the Belgian Ministry of Health announced that the volunteer who fell ill did not know he was carrying the virus during his visit. Photos from the event showed that not all the tenants wore masks during the meeting, and that a distance of two meters was not maintained between him and the adults.
