Kfar Saba ousted Ramat Gan from the top of the table, Jerusalem and Bat Yam close it: The city of Sharon presented in 2019, before the outbreak of the corona plague, the highest life expectancy and conquered the summit of the largest cities with the highest quality of life in the country, along with Ramat Gan and Rehovot. The data emerges from the report of the Quality of Life Indices for 2019 of the Central Bureau of Statistics.
The report, which analyzes the 16 largest cities in Israel, with more than 100,000 residents, examined a number of indicators that indicate quality of life – such as life expectancy, satisfaction with the area of residence and economic status, use of the Internet and other areas.


In most quality of life indices, Kfar Saba in the Sharon is leading compared to the other large cities, and its position in 30 indices is considered higher than the national average. Among other things, this is the life expectancy of the city’s residents, which stands at 84.8 years on average compared to a national average of 82.8, residents’ employment in positions that match their field of study (74.5%) and satisfaction with their area of residence and the apartment where they live. At the same time, in Kfar Saba, satisfaction was lower than the level of public transportation (33.8%) compared to the national average, which stands at 41.3%.
Other cities that received a high score in the CBS report are Ramat Gan, Rehovot, Tel Aviv-Yafo and Rishon Lezion. Ramat Gan, for example, leads in the rate of waste transferred to recycling, and also has the lowest rate of discrimination – 18.6% compared to the national average of 25.7%. Rehovot leads in the proportion of employed people who feel that their job allows for promotion, while Tel Aviv-Yafo leads in the employment rate (71.3%) compared to 61.1% in the national average, and also in the rate of eligibility for matriculation among large cities – 70.9% compared to 50% in the national average.


However, in Tel Aviv-Yafo it was also found that close to half of the households paying for housing account for more than 30% of the monthly income, compared with 29.5% on the national average. The rate of trust in the government in Tel Aviv-Yafo was also lower than the national average in 2019 – 34.8% compared to the national average of 41.2%. In Rishon Lezion, according to the report, the highest percentage of women in management positions in the public sector is found in Israel, and there is also satisfaction with the green areas and parks in the residential area.
According to the CBS, the cities of Holon, Beer Sheva, Petah Tikva, Haifa, Netanya and Bnei Brak received a medium overall score. In Holon, the rate of cancer patients is higher than the national average and stands at 351.6 women per 100,000 people, and among men at 337.5 per 100,000 people. The average in Israel in 2019 was 315.1 women per 100,000 and 329.9 men per 100,000, while Holon is in second place with the lowest death rate in the country in road accidents per 100,000 inhabitants – standing at 0.2% versus 1.02% On a national average.

Be’er Sheva occupies the first place of satisfaction with the length of time to get to work in relation to the national average, but the city’s residents report a high feeling of depression compared to other residents of the big cities. 33.8% indicated a feeling of depression, compared to an average of 24% Earthly.
In 2019, no Petah Tikva resident was killed in road accidents and she ranks first in this index. On the other hand, the rate of waste transferred to recycling in the city is lower than the national average and stands at 10.6% compared to 23.4%.

In Haifa, the lowest monthly cost of housing services was recorded in 2019, but the turnout in the 22nd Knesset elections (September 2019 elections) was lower than the national average – 58.3% compared to 69.8% in the national average. The best drinking water quality in the country was found in Netanya, and Bnei Brak leads in satisfaction with life, expectations regarding the future and satisfaction with the balance between work and other areas. The employment rate there, however, is lower than the national average – standing at 46.9% compared to 61.1%.
The bottom of the list of indices with a total score lower than the staff of Beit Shemesh, Ashkelon, Ashdod, Bat Yam and Jerusalem. Beit Shemesh leads in trust in the health system, in self-esteem of health, in a sense of appreciation from family members and at the same time the indices that stood out most in the city are the density of housing in 1.23 people compared to 0.86 national average, and the rate of high school and 37.8%. Compared with 54.4% in the national average.

Ashkelon, on the other hand, leads in the index of the proportion of people with post-secondary education and higher education, but 84.9% of the residents feel low satisfaction with their work, 49.9% are employed in a position that does not match their studies and 49.1% are dissatisfied with the work-life balance. Ashdod is a leader in the high sense of security, but its residents are less involved in volunteer activities and their rate is 17.2% compared to 21.9% on the national average. And the rate of employed persons satisfied with their income is lower than the national average and stands in Ashdod at 54.2% compared to 62.7% in the national average.
In Bat Yam, according to the report, there is a low infant mortality rate and high satisfaction with public transportation in the residential area. The proportion of overweight children in the city is also higher than average and the satisfaction with cleanliness in the residential area is lower than the national average, 35.4% compared to 56.5%. The infant mortality rate per 1,000 newborns in the city is higher than the national average, satisfaction with the area of residence is also low and the long-term unemployment rate is higher than the national average – 25.3% compared to 17.4% The access to a computer in Jerusalem is lower than the national average, 77.4% compared to 83.8%.
The cities analyzed by the report are Ramat Gan, Rehovot, Rishon Lezion, Tel Aviv-Yafo, Petah Tikva, Haifa, Bnei Brak, Netanya, Beer Sheva, Ashdod, Holon, Jerusalem, Bat Yam, Ashkelon, Beit Shemesh and Kfar Saba.
