Moroccan delegation to visit Israel to promote relations

A Moroccan delegation will travel to Israel in the coming week to promote innovative relations, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Saturday.

Netanyahu on Friday spoke with King Mohammed VI at Morocco and invited him to visit. The Israeli delegation traveled to Morocco on Tuesday and the countries plan to reopen liaison offices and launch direct commercial flights.

“We agreed that a Moroccan delegation will come here at the beginning of the week to take everything forward,” Netanyahu said in a video he posted on Twitter, in which he described his conversation with the king.

Consideration could not be given to reaching a Moroccan government for comment. A diplomatic source speaking on condition of anonymity said the time and location of the organization have not yet been determined.

Morocco has followed the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Sudan in moving to normalize relations with Israel. Palestinians have been fined for broken treaties by the U.S., seeing a long-standing demand for Israel to meet their demand for statehood.

Israel’s new allies have also received bilateral benefits from Washington – in Rabat’s case, U.S. recognition of its sovereignty over Western Sahara.
