A health care worker in Boston with a history of allergies developed an allergic reaction after receiving the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine on Christmas Eve.
This is the first known case of an allergic reaction from the Moderna coronavirus vaccine, although at least six cases of sensory reaction in the US have been reported to be associated with the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine.
“After receiving the vaccine, I felt tachycardic, but I felt like it was a cause for concern because I was scared after learning about Pfizer reactions in the US, especially with the Those with shellfish allergies, like me, “Dr. Hossein Sadrzadeh told CNN.
Tachycardia is a medical term referring to a rapid or irregular heartbeat.
After examining his vitals, Sadrzadeh realized that his heart rate was on a spike.
“My heart rate was 150, my normal heart rate was 75 but … six, seven minutes after the vaccine was introduced, I felt my tongue and also my throat, like which was a strange sensation of tingling and numbness, the same reaction I had before to a shellfish allergy, “Sadrzadeh said.
Sadrzadeh said his blood pressure was dropping so low that it wasn’t even easy to detect with a monitor. It was then that he decided to use his EpiPen, and the staff took him to the emergency room.
Sadrzadeh was watched for four hours before being able to drive home.
“The main concern for me as a person and as a doctor … I need to get the word out to people … People should have the EpiPen if they have allergic reactions,” Sadrzadeh said, adding urging Moderna to investigate further.
A spokesman from Moderna said the biotechnology company could not confirm the incident, but said “the potential adverse effects through their internal safety reporting system and Moderna is investigating further. “
