Yehuda Poliker celebrates 70: Listen to the best of his songs on “Shabbat Ivrit”

Yehuda Poliker celebrates his 70th birthday today (Friday). He is considered one of the greatest composers and singers in the history of the country, and participates in countless hits that we are all excited to hear, including: ‘Less But Hurts’, ‘Ash and Dust’, ‘My Eyes’, ‘Loot of Burning’ and many more goodies. Last year, Poliker was elected to light a beacon on the 71st Independence Day of the State of Israel.

Poliker was born Leonidas Polikaris, and as a child he fell in love with music. At the age of 13 he decided to dedicate his whole being to the field. His big break came in 1981 with a gas band, which, under his leadership, swept the audience. Her two albums ‘Twenty-Four Hours’ and ‘Night Shift’ were a huge success.

When the band disbanded, in 1985, Poliker released his first solo album, called ‘My Eyes’, which included songs in Greek translated into Hebrew, including ‘Sunday Morning’, ‘Elco’, ‘Applause’ and of course the theme song ‘My Eyes’. Following this, Poliker went on a successful tour and continued to create music.

As the son of Holocaust survivors, Poliker also dealt with this difficult subject in his poems, together with his co-creator Yaakov Gilad. In 1988 they released the album ‘Ash and Dust’, which included the songs ‘When You Grow Up’, ‘Window to the Mediterranean’ and ‘Ash and Dust’. The album gained an iconic status in the Israeli music world, and is considered by many to be the best album released in the country. He, too, accompanied on a successful tour.

Later he released many more albums (to date 16 albums with his name), starred on the biggest stages in the country, and wrote for many artists, such as: Gidi Gov, Riki Gal, Yardena Arazi, Yehudit Tamir, Rita and Nurit Galron.

In honor of the esteemed and beloved composer’s birthday, Dalit Ofer, editor of ‘Shabbat Ivrit’, edited Poliker’s best songs, creating an amazing musical sequence of five exciting hours.

From all of us on 103FM, congratulations, and many more years of creativity and work!
