TOKYO (Reuters) – Bank of Japan Governor Haruhiko Kuroda said Thursday that the central bank is ready to take new steps to make its major stimulus program more effective and sustainable in an upcoming review of its policy measures.

“The focus of our study is not on lowering costs or mitigating the side effects of our policy,” Kuroda said in a speech at Keidanren’s annual business lobbying meeting.

“Instead, we will take a proactive approach in seeking ways to achieve economic and price stability with more effective mitigation, while mitigating the side effects,” he said.
