In practice, after most of the trading day Apple shares experienced declines that reached a peak of 2.5%, the American media reported the company’s entry into the electric vehicle market led to a change of direction and a daily increase of 1.2%. In late trading, Apple continued to rise by 2%.
According to reports, Apple, which is managed by Tim Cook, plans to produce a passenger car as early as 2024 that will incorporate a battery that it will develop itself with groundbreaking technology. This is a battery that is supposed to increase the travel time between charges and lower vehicle costs. In doing so, Apple’s vehicle should appeal to an audience that is more interested than the low-range electric cars that exist today, and on the other hand pay less than for Tesla’s cars.
The reports also emphasize that Apple will contact a partner who made the cars for it and that the company will not manufacture them itself. Another possible scenario is that Apple will develop software for an autonomous vehicle, which will later be sold to partners in the automotive industry – but this is contrary to Apple’s tradition of holding as large a share as possible in the production chain, as opposed to selling its technology to other manufacturers. Just recently Apple launched a new product line of computers based on its own processors, not Intel’s, which it has used so far.
