After just four months, and a 2-0 loss to Huddersfield, Vladimir Ivitch ended his career as Watford coach. Athletic detailed the reasons that led to the departure of the Serb, who was only recently elected coach of the month in November at the Championship where after 20 rounds, the Wasps are in fifth place with 34 points, four points from second place which guarantees a direct league promotion.
According to the report, the loss to Huddersfield was the straw that broke the camel’s back at Watford’s management, bored with Ivica’s defensive style, and the fact that he left Troy Dini on the bench for 90 minutes for disciplinary reasons only contributed to the club’s frustration with the Serbian coach.
It was also written that the style based on ball possession reduced the creativity of the team, a topic that worried several players at the club. In addition, the goals scored by Huddersfield from the fouls of Ben Foster and Etienne Capo’s self only added to the dissatisfaction with the club’s performance.
Although Watford are still among the candidates for promotion to the league, the feeling at the club is that a new coach will be able to realize the full potential of attacking players like Ismaila Sar, who does not seem to be realizing his full potential. And with January’s approaching transfer window, the intention is to start a new season with a new outlook.
And who might replace Ivica? According to the report, Watford is in talks with Spanish side Cisco Minui, who is currently coaching Dynamo Tbilissi (Georgia). However, it is still unclear whether the Wasps are being built on as a head coach or as someone else’s assistant.
Incidentally, former footballer and current commentator Gary Lineker has scolded management for changing coaches frequently, tweeting on his Twitter account: “Watford is firing coaches more frequently than changing Corona’s restrictions.”
Watford sack managers more often than we change tiers.
