Nokia and Polkomtel will switch to 5G services in Poland

Polkomtel of Poland, which operates as Plus, has launched 5G services in partnership with Nokia covering the capital Warsaw as well as other cities in the east of the country.

The scope of the project includes the introduction of 5G in addition to the existing Nokia AirScale LTE infrastructure. The service was launched in the fourth quarter of 2020 and, as part of a nationwide Plus 5G network rollout that began in May 2020, will be expanded again in the coming months.

Nokia provided 5G radio solutions from its complete AirScale package for indoor and outdoor broadcasting. These solutions allow the Plus network operator to deliver innovative connectivity and capacity to their subscribers at very low rates, as well as reduce complexity and increase cost efficiency.

Polkomtel has rolled out the 2600 MHz TDD frequency band to roll out 5G services ahead of the 3.5 GHz frequency auction planned for next year. The first rollout is a wide area deployment of Nokia’s 5H AirScale Compact RRH solution that enables the operator to build networks in congested or indoor urban areas with optimal performance. This is an innovative way to enable the right cell size, allowing them to manage costs and deliver the necessary capacity.
