Democratic Senate Candidates Jon Ossoff and the Hon. Raphael Warnock is expected to appear at a get-out-of-the-vote event in Georgia on Sunday with a panelist who gave honorary membership to the controversial director of the Nation of Louis, Louis Farrakhan, last year.

The “GOTV Rally & Forum for Georgia,” modeled by FOX 5 Atlanta reporter Mark Hayes, will be streamed online and will feature NAACP CEO Derrick Johnson and Dr. David E. Marion, chairman of the Howard Pan-Hellenic National Presidential Council of Howard University.

In February 2019, Marion Farrakhan joined Omega Psi Phi Fraternity with honorary membership, according to Final Call, the official newspaper of the Nation of Islam.

“Thank you to my brothers at Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. for giving me an Honorary Membership,” Farrakhan tweeted. “As long as we live, we will try to strive for those basic principles that make Omega Man a man after God.”

The fraternity was established on the campus of Howard University, a historically black college, in 1911. Other notables who received honorary membership include the Rev. Michael Jordan. Jesse Jackson and Shaquille O’Neal.

The incident at Ossoff and Warnock with Farrakhan ‘s support is certainly eye – catching, given the director’ s controversial reputation.

Farrakhan, who has led the Nation of Islam since the late 1970s, has expressed a number of anti-Semitic views over the years, most of which do not involve describing Adolf Hitler as a “very good man” and claiming as “termites. ”

The Southern Poverty Law Center has identified the Nation of Islam as a “hate group.”

Earlier this week, Warnock was criticized for previous comments praising the Nation as an “important” voice for African Americans during civil rights.
