Two inmates and several employees are testing positive for COVID-19 at Arbor Hill Prison

A number of staff and two inmates have been confirmed to be positive for COVID-19 at a prison in Dublin.

A major test program will be conducted at Arbor Hill Prison in the city center after the positive coronavirus cases are confirmed.

A Rebellion Control Team has been deployed to the prison and the Irish Prison Service says it is working with the HSE to control the behavior.

They have also confirmed tonight that the behavior could affect some recorded phone and video calls.

An IPS statement read: “The Irish Prison Service can confirm that a small number of staff at Arbor Hill Prison have been positive for COVID-19 and a search for contact is ongoing in this regard.

“The Irish Prison Service can further confirm that 2 prisoners have also been positive for the virus.

“As a warning, the Irish Prison Service agrees with HSE Public Health that all staff and prisoners will be tested to provide a definitive response to the current situation at Arbor Hill Prison.

“The Arbor Hill Mutiny Control Team (OCT) continues to liaise with Prison Management to monitor appropriate action to mitigate against further spread of the disease in prison.

“The Irish Prison Service is working closely with HSE Public Health on the management of the routine uprising including arrangements for a major trial of all staff and prisoners in Knock Prison Arbor.

“To help prevent the spread of the disease, a more restricted system has been introduced which can affect access to video tours and short-term telephone calls for lonely prisoners but we are work to ensure that we can continue to maintain family communication for as long as possible. “
