Arsenal did not need Martin Odegaard, Nicolas Pepe or Willian to sign according to former Gunner Tony Adams.
All three have been signed over the past two seasons, the first on loan with the other two reaching permanent contracts.
Pepe has been signed for a £ 72m club record while Willian has secured a three-year winning contract.
None of them have been successful and Adams is “tempted” by their success as it is hindering the development of Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe.
He also felt that the money could be better invested in strengthening the club ‘s defensive options.
“To be honest, there’s an argument that you don’t need Martin Odegaard,” Adams told Premier League Productions.

“I was so disappointed that we bought Pepe and Willian in when you have two children [Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka] bursting into the team.
“There are other areas in the team that you could look at, there are holes in that team, we saw how vulnerable they are to defense. The defense has always been a weak link.
“As Arsenal’s sports director, you wouldn’t get Odegaard in, you’d get strong, strong defenders into the team instead.”
Saka has been consistently from an explosion on the scene when Unai Emery was still in charge.
But Smith Rowe had to waste his time and went out on loan to Huddersfield last term to advance his development.

A recent run of games has allowed him to showcase his quality and the 20-year-old is now getting the upper hand ahead of the likes of Willian.
He and Saka both started winning Arsenal over Leeds which lifts them into the top half.
Other youngster Joe Willock has gone out on loan to Newcastle to ensure he gets more playing time while Ainsley Maitland-Niles sees the season at West Brom.
The Gunners have lost just two of their last ten as they look to make up for a bad time earlier in the season.
