The next morning – Engadget

Friday night, The Table and Bleeping Computing Acer PC maker has been reported to have been hit by a ransomware attack on its back office network. According to information they saw posted on the dark web, the ransomware gang REvil is demanding $ 50 million to decrypt their computers and delete stolen data instead of releasing it.

Acer has not publicly admitted that an attack is taking place, only that it has reported “recent abusive situations” to law enforcement. If it needs an example of what to do then CD Projekt Red may be an example, after a publicly acknowledged ransomware attack that undermined plans to release new pieces for Cyberpunk 2077. The game’s developer is probably on its way to getting over that, as it was just posting a video showing off tweaks that will be part of the upcoming 1.2 patch.
