Google’s next phone isn’t a “Pixel 5a” surprise, and bidders released today suggest that the mid-range will be almost identical to the Pixel 4a 5G.
OnLeaks (Steve Hemmerstoffer) on Voice today unveiled what has been dubbed the “Pixel 5a. ”The dimensions (156.2 x 73.2 x 8.8mm) are almost the same as the Pixel 4a 5G, although it is 2.3mm taller, .8mm narrower, and .6mm thicker. “Unibody back panel (probably plastic made) is said to be used, with both the Pixel 3a and 4a opting for plastic rather than glass. The only major difference is what looks like a fragile power button design.
Despite tweaks to the physical body, it also has a 6.2-inch FHD + OLED display with a thicker bottom bezel breaking the uniformity of the other three sides. There is still a front-punch camera in the top left corner.
The camera system is a significant improvement over the Pixel 4a by jumping to a dual-lens position, but – again – this is said to be the same “resolution as seen on the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 ”(12.2MP two-pixel and 16 MP ultrawide). Other shared specs like a series phone include the 3.5mm headphone jack and the rear Pixel Imprint fingerprint sensor. There are two cuts for a speaker and a microphone on either side of the USB-C port.
The “Pixel 5a,” if that ends up being the final marketing / launch name, would be with a unique positioning design. Such an approach would, in theory, help reduce Google’s production costs, with the line’s overarching goal of creating an affordable entry-level engine.
Today’s leak offers no specification or insight into what processor Google will use to power the Pixel 5a, though 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage is a safe bet. A big question is whether this device will feature a 5G connection as there is a huge pressure in 2020.
In terms of launch, the first half of this year is a safe bet as it would seem that last year ‘s phone – preventing the pandemic and production problems – would be announced in May, just as it is. Pixel 3a at 2019.
