Starting today: You can pay for a single trip in the IDF

Today (Tuesday) the fee reform for public transport travel will begin. At this stage not kosher. According to the reform, in addition to the option to pay multi-line at existing rates today, it will be possible to start and pay with an app linked to a credit card without having to hold the card or recharge it in advance.

The app examines at the end of each month all of the passenger’s trips and charges him according to the most lucrative combination for him.

The fare for each trip is calculated according to a new formula that calculates the cost of the trip according to the distance traveled according to six radii set by the Ministry of Transportation, with a daily spending ceiling and a discount on a monthly spending ceiling. No need to commit in advance to free monthly / weekly / daily – pay at the end of the month, only for what you actually travel.

Those entitled to discounts in the community, such as youth, students, senior citizens and the disabled, will continue to enjoy the reduced rates, through submitting an application in the app.

The service can be used through four applications: Government – ‘The Station’ and private applications: moovit (moovit, Pango and Bank Hapoalim), multi-pass (hop-on and Discount Bank) and ANY-WAY (Isracard).

Currently it is only for those who own a smartphone. Later, a development is planned that will allow the use of those who do not own a smartphone.

As of today, public transportation passengers in Israel will be able to enjoy for the first time a comprehensive mobility experience (Mobility as a Service) – information, travel planning and payment for them in one application. Moovit and Pango, the two most popular transportation apps in Israel, each with more than 2 million users in the country, have teamed up to provide a solution for all public transportation passengers and improve the payment and travel experience.

The move will revolutionize the payment of public transportation in Israel: Anyone who wants to use the transportation can do so easily and conveniently via the Moovit app on the phone, without having to pre-equip a multi-line ticket and recharge it with money or travel contracts, and without fear of losing or forgetting the ticket. The possibility of using cash on buses, this reform will allow regular passengers as well as those who do not travel on public transport regularly, including tourists, to use it easily and casually. The payment will be available on all bus lines in Israel and from 1.2 onwards also on the Israel Railways and in Carmelit.

The revolution also brings a consumer line to travelers in terms of the fares they will pay. The app examines at the end of each month the total travel of the passenger and charges him according to the most lucrative combination for him.

Apart from the payment option, Moovit provides all the required information about travel routes on public transportation in Israel and even combined routes that include taxis, bicycles, shared scooters, carpools and more. Now with the launch of the payment service, Moovit users have everything they need to plan a trip, stay updated in real time and pay for public transportation in the easy and convenient way, without any prior commitment and all in one app. Pango provides user account infrastructure, clearing and payment for app activity.

Here’s how it works:

Moovit users are not required to download another app, just update to the latest version. On the main screen when the app opens they will be able to quickly sign up for the payment service and use it immediately after entering payment details. At the stage of choosing the means of payment, users who also have an account in the Pango app will be able to choose whether to link their Pango account as the means of payment for travel in the Habatz.

After completing the account opening process, to pay for a trip, open the Moovit app when boarding the bus and from the main screen select the option of “Travel validation”. At this point, the camera will be activated, and the passenger must use it to scan the dedicated QR code stickers pasted near the doors of all bus lines in Israel. After the scan, the destination station or travel distance must be selected, confirm, and the travel confirmation will appear immediately in the app and will be available for presentation to the driver or supervisor.

Unlike the current situation where you have to load the “multi-line” card and pay in advance to enjoy a discount on multiple trips, the payment in Moovit will be in accordance with the passenger’s usage habits when at the end of each month the cost per passenger is automatically calculated. . In addition users can also see the details of their travels and charges at any time in the app.

Yovav Meidad, VP of Marketing and Growth at Moovit, says that “The launch of the payment service in the app is an important milestone in the promotion of public transportation in Israel. From the vast global experience we have accumulated, we know that the accessibility of MaaS, as a mobile service, in a real and complete way, increases the satisfaction of users of public transport and as a result increases the level of its use. “Moovit now has everything you need to navigate, get around and also pay for travel – all in one place, which makes traveling easier and more convenient.”
