Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired the US rights to Peter Bebjak’s historical drama Auschwitz Report, selected as the Slovakian contestant for Best International Feature Film for the 93rd annual Oscars. The company plans to issue a message sometime next year.
The pic, which is Bebjak’s second film selected as Slovakia’s official entry, is the true story of two Slovak Jewish men, Rudolf Vrba and Alfréd Wetzler. Threatening certain deaths, the two ordered a detailed report on Nazi activity before fleeing Auschwitz to reveal the denied truth to the world. What makes Wetzler and Vrba come home, though, is the frightening understanding that even the truth may not be enough.
Starring Noel Czuczor, Peter Onderjička and John Hannah. Bebjak wrote the screenplay with Jozef Paštéka and Tomáš Bombík. The representatives are Natália Rau Guzinkiewiczová, Rasťo Šesták and Bebjak.
The deal was handled by Dirk Schürhoff, managing director of Beta Cinema, and Miles Fineburg, director of theater construction and sales at Samuel Goldwyn.
