Corona virus is especially dangerous for obese people. This emerges from a new study published by the World Association for Obesity.

According to the data in the new study, 2.2 million of the 2.5 million deaths recorded to date worldwide have occurred in countries where there is a high level of overweight.

Following the data, the heads of the World Association of Obesity are calling for priority to be given to overweight vaccines in order to reduce the risk of coronary virus infection in them.

The study further found that countries such as the US, Italy, the UK and Belgium, where over half of the adult population is obese, had the highest mortality rates due to the corona virus according to population size, indicating a direct link between obesity and a high risk of corona death.

In contrast, in Vietnam, the country with the penultimate obesity percentage in the world, there is the lowest death rate for the size of the population.

Dr Tim Lubstein, author of the report who served as a consultant to the World Health Organization, said that “we were shocked to see the high link between the percentage of obese adults and the number of coronary deaths. We knew there was a problem in several countries around the world “All over the world except for a few countries that have taken steps to protect obese people, such as New Zealand and Iceland. We now know that obesity is the next epidemic.”

The director general of the World Health Organization, Tedros Jabrisos, also said that there is a clear link between obesity and corona death. “The link between obesity and corona mortality rates is clear and compelling. Investing in public health and coordinating international action to tackle the roots of obesity is one of the best ways for countries to build resilience in post-epidemic health systems. We call on all countries to take advantage of this moment, “Jabrisos said.
