Manchester United advanced to the round of 16 Europa League with a goalless draw against Real Sociedad at Old Trafford on Thursday.

– When is the Europa League draw for the round of 16?

Sociedad got the chance to start coming back when a club challenge from Daniel James saw them receive a penalty in the 13th minute. But captain Mikel Oyarzabal managed to put the spot-kick high and wide of the goal.

United then had a chance to add to their overall lead, Bruno Fernandes hitting the crossbar on 24 minutes when he saw Sociedad keeper Alex Remiro off his line.

James then pulled a fine save from Remiro with a header after a foul ball from Fernandes on 36 minutes.

Both sides made three substitutes at half-time, perhaps aware of United’s four-goal lead from the first leg and domestic interests.

Early in the second half, Marcus Rashford narrowed a free kick for United and Modibo Sagnan went against the bar for the visitors as both sides looked to break down.

VAR-controlled substitute Axel Tuanzebe had a strong goal on 63 minutes after Victor Lindelof defeated Jon Bautista during the build-up.

With the game coming to an end Shola Shoretire was brought in on 76 minutes, becoming United’s youngest ever player in a European game at 17 years old and 23 days old.
