Auckland, New Zealand (18 December 2020) – Four match races were held on the second day of the PRADA American Cup World Cup Series (ACWS) on race course C, their favorite playing field as it brings the race to heart of Waitematā Harbor, with its rolling and puffy Northwest gusts between 10 to 14 nautical miles.

On the new ranking list the American Magic Team and Emirates New York Yacht Club New Zealand have linked with three winners each. Opponent Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli (2 points) and INEOS TEAM UK (0 points) continue in third and fourth positions respectively.

Race 5 – Italy beat USA by 0:12.
The race was still tight but Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli sailed a confident and clean race to secure the win over the New York Yacht Club American Magic. This is Italy’s first win in a race where both boats are ready. – Full report

Race 6 – New Zealand beat Britain by 1:32
There were early signs that some shipwreck was ahead beforehand and INEOS TEAM UK (GBR) attempted to impose a penalty on the Emirates of New Zealand (NZL) Team seconds before they started. The third and final lap delivered no more in a dramatic way and saw the Kiwis extend their lead to the finish. – Full report

Race 7 – USA beat Italy by 0:30
The return match between American Magic (USA) and Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli (ITA) was the third race of the day. With high confidence, American Magic gathered to victory. – Full report

Race 8 – New Zealand beat Britain by 1:42
In the final race of the day a second sparring of the day took place between INEOS Team UK (GBR) and Team Emirates New Zealand (NZL). Before the final leg death was thrown and the Kiwis got the win, another win for the home team, but two races ended for Sir Ben Ainslie after some difficult days. – Full report

The ACWS starts tomorrow at 3:00 pm NZT weather permitting, with exact start times published each racing day on americascup.com. Prices will be awarded on the main stage on Te Wero Island an hour after racing. The ACWS is December 17-19, with the final result to test the original pairs for a two-stage Christmas Race on December 20th.
