Iran behind attack on Israeli-owned ship, Kochavi confirms

After Defense Minister Benny Gantz suggested that the Iranians were to blame for the missile attack on an Israeli-owned cargo ship last week, IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Aviv Kochavi said on Sunday that the incident was a reminder that Iran is “spreading terrorism and organizing terrorist acts against civilian targets.”

“We were reminded that Iran is not just a nuclear threat,” he said at the 8200 Intelligence Unit’s command-change ceremony.

“The State of Israel is constantly facing many threats,” Kochavi said. “All sides are active, and all of these faces need up-to-date, real-time information [to defend] the rocket face [attack], against infiltration, against cyberattacks, against [threats to] ships and threats on combat jets. “

“The information is interconnected on all sides, and we can’t do without it,” he said.

“This is the place to reiterate that the IDF is working and will work against all threats in the closest and widest circle,” Kochavi said. “And as always, it will do so through the high-quality information provided by the Information Directorate.”

During the ceremony, Unit received 8200 awards for outstanding achievements.

As a result of the 8200 success, “we all benefit from high-quality information, based on unprecedented improvements,” Kochavi said.
